Re: used motors

They are all over the place. Just use your search engine for "used outboards" or "used boats".

I scan Craig's List in three different locations just to see whats going on but the last classic boat I bought I drove past for a couple years then just stopped in and asked the guy if he might sell. We hammered out a deal that day and I drove away with a great find.

as far as fresh water is concerned a used motor is just that the person selling it can tell you whatever they want about its history so inspect it well and buy with caution.

CraigsList (online) and or localized want add papers like Uncle Henery's are the dumping grounds for most privatly owned used outboards. Boat dealers, marina's et al also have asuply but often don't bother with the older/limited value flavors.
It's true you can't gaurenty the history of an outboard but if you buy it in an area that is a hundred + miles from the salt, chances are it's a mostly fresh water motor. The other indicator is the cosmetic condition. SW turns outboards ugly in a hurry. i'e if she's clean and you buy it in the Adorondacks, you're probobly safe in knowing it was a freshwater only motor.
