Used part compatability and prices

Can anyone give me some advisement here? I am looking to buy extra electrical components for my 1986 Force 125hp motor. I found someone who is parting out a 1990 Force 120hp motor. My questions are- Are the CDI boxes, coils, and starter motor compatible to my engine, and if so, is $200 a good price for these items or is that a ripoff for used parts? I am new to boating so I just want to make sure I am not getting taken for a ride here.

Re: Used part compatability and prices

I think you can buy new surplus for $125 and it won't matter about compatibility because it is complete ignition system with stator, trigger, cdi, coils, & everything. But, I'm just guessing. You would need to make sure you have same flywheel & crank. Then you'd need to make sure the one on surplus has same # of cylinders. I think you can make a larger system fit smaller engine by just wiring up fewer coils (or something). Anyway, check with sea-way marine before plunking down $200 for a pile of used parts.

What is sea- way marine? I just priced these parts (new) on this website and it would be over $700 just for the coils and CDI boxes alone.
