I wouldn't consider a used part that you're looking for to be reliable, depending on the source. Check on eBay, try tcoutboards.com. I also wouldn't assume that the part that you're looking for is the part you need. But even if it is, you might spend more time and money trying to cheap-out than if you just do it right the first time. Or bail on the motor altogether and eBay the good parts. Don't get caught-up throwing good money at a 32 year old relic. You can get good money for healthy powerheads, gearcases, starters, etc. A lot of times you can get a lot more for it that way. As is, your whole motor is worth maybe a couple hundred bucks. The gearcase alone might be worth a couple hundred bucks.
