Newbie here guys but have been trolling trying to learn all I can. I have the oppurtunity to purchase a 98 Crownline 180 DR 18 ft'r with a great stereo system. From my research its the 6 cylinder which I think is fine for us. Just wanna cruise around and pull the occasional skier/tuber. Gonna go look at it tomorrow. They are asking 4000.00, but I think I can get it for a little less. The guy is hurting for money, had some healtth issues and has no choice. I saw it on the local lake a few times this summer so it seems to be a good deal. Any pointers/clues to look for while looking it over would be greatly appreciated

Re: used purchase questions

At 12 yrs old the transom, stringers, hull foam, and engine could be all be shot. Checking the engine is straightfwd enough but do you know how to spot rotted stringers and transom?
If there ANY soft spots anywhere on the deck consider everything you cannot see to be rotted to pulp. The last place it shows is in the deck and they rot from the hull up, not from the deck down.
Heres a great resource to study.

But the best thing you can do is take someone experienced with you.

Could be a great deal if it's in great shape, or a poor deal if in poor shape. If not familair with boats, either take someone who is when you go look at it, or hire a surveyor to look at it. You want to make sure the motor and hull are in good shape. If it checks out, I would think it would be a nice first boat. You'll love the 4.3 for all around versatility. Good luck with it.
