I have a 1980 9.9 Sea Horse. A previous owner removed the Steering Handle Assembly and was using the rudder to steer the boat. I need to park my sailbaot backward in its mooring space. I need more control that what is offer by the rudder. Price for new handle is more than 300$ CDN

I'm looking for a used complete Steering Handle Assembly. I'm located in Montreal, Canada. Anybody know where I could find that? I've already called the local marine service centers.

Re: Used Steering Handle Assembly

Hi Svey,
Skip the "Service Centers". In a spot like Montreal along the St. Lawrence and the Ottawa River there is bound to be some outboard salvage yards. That's not an uncommon item so it would stand to reason that you wouldn't have a problem finding one.
To find a salvage yard type place, you may have to do a little back-door inquiring. Head back to the service center, but don't ask the clean-cut guy in the starched shirt and manicured hands behind the counter. See if you can find the guy with his hands elbow deep in a motor out in the yard and grease on his shirt. Sometimes a six-pack, or maybe even a two-four might be required to jog their memory on where old outboards go, but they'll eventually tell you.
There's a guy named Ephrem who likes to hang around the AOMCI.org "Ask A Member" board who is also from your general area. He might be able to point you in the right direction, also.
Failing that, there are several online sources, whether through Twin City Outboard or Seaway out West...
Good luck!
- Scott
