USGC Regulations for antique boat

I am restoring an old boat. Originally, it didn't have a bilge pump. I was told, "The Coast Guard requires one on every boat regardless of it age" Is this true? Does the same rule apply to fresh water boats too?

My advice is to read the regulations yourself. This will eliminate any possible information being wrong.

Based on your statement a 12 foot jon boat equipped with oars will need a bilge pump !

Ya... You're right... Good catch, I realized that fact too, well after I posted my question...:redface::redface: It would be kinda funny to see a 12' jon boat with a bilge pump though Thanks for the links

For a small craft, you are required to have navagation lights, an all around light, a sound making device, and a minimal amount of safety equipment. I have been all through the coat guard regs for small boats recently with the lighting for my hard top project and just adding a bilge pump. I don't ever recall seeing anything that requires a bilge pump in a small craft.

But don't take my word on it, like Bob said, read them yourself. Lots of good info there. Especially read the sections on fuel and fuel tanks, that's an important one.
