Using a manual

I have a Seloc manual to help me and it's easy for me to follow. I hear some say I need to get an actual "Service Manual" if I want to be able to repair or maintain my engine. Any thoughts? How much difference is there between the two? A parts list included w/ Serv Manual, I'm assuming??

Re: Using a manual

Part listings are not normally included in the factory service manual. I do prefer the factory manual because they seem to be more specific/detailed (in recent years). The Seloc and Clymer manuals typically cover too many motors, in less detail.

That said, if I already owned a Seloc manual I would probably not go for the factory manual.

Factory Literature (assuming you have a '69 Merc 200):
Mercury Parts List: 90-48711
Mercury Service Manual: 90-68647

(I have that factory service manual, and unfortunately it covers A LOT of motors....including my 115hp)
