Hi
I have a new long shaft parsun 4 stroke 5 hp not being used even once. advertised for sale.

on second thinking, untill buying a good RIB for fishing, I was thinking of buing some low cost good used SIB and have my parsun on it. So far I have no SIB in mind and not familiar with what is advertised for sale.

Before dreaming of this possibility, I am aware that SIBS and RIBS usually take short shaft outboards.

my parsun is a long shaft and is 127mm longer than the short shaft version:
Parsunmarine...Parsun outboard motors...Parsun outboards...china

is there any possibility that a long shaft can fit and work fine? maybe raising the attachment point for the engine?
either this or not celling the engine. don't see a way to replace it with short shaft outboard.

will love getting your help

Sameh,

At this point I'm beginning to laugh, you're deeply exploring the near whole inflatable universe. Don't waiste money on used sibs with such poor engines. A 5 will struggle to plane with more that 1 up, save money and energy. You're inquiring Alibaba ribs, maybe we can do something with the factory I'm currently working with, that is personalize a nice rib at factory cost for you if interested. Which size are you thinking about ?

hi sea rider

i am laughing as well i am going that direction! but i was thinking of getting a small sib/rib currently (3 meters or so that i think won't need more than 5 hp to get to the fishing point) so i can smell some sea (even if with great limitations), and in acouple of months-4 months get order for a good larger new rib when having the money for that!

I know some people kill Parsun but at least it is new and available ;)
what do you mean by factory you work with? in china? can be found in alibaba? or you meant something else?
anyway, i will love getting your help with the spoken factory if you recommend it's RIBS.

I am thinking of 3.8-4.2 RIB. I want that size and not bigger because it will be heavier, larger engine and harder to trail in hard shores.

looking forward for your directioning...

Sameh,

How much money are you thinking investing on a used sib with new 5 HP Parsun untill you can save and buy a large 380-420 Mtr rib ? Nothing against PRCH products but Parsun engines does have varied tech issues, we have them here too and boaters that have bought them for 50% of same Jap engine HP price were not to content with them.

Do you have 2-4 strokes Tohatsu engines in Israel ? You could start with a larger engine, lets say a 18 HP, that will serve you well if going for a 380-420 Mtr rib, plenty to transport 2-3 fishermen. Money well spent.

Hi
I was thinking of spending only 600-700$ on small sib\rib to have my parsun on it and fish close to shore. now it is good season on shallow waters for trolling for Amberjacks and spanish Mackarels. with small engine it will not be costly!

I have tried to do some poll in a local fishing forum here but got no feedbacks on parsun. saw 2 people claiming they were satisfied with it! that was contradicting with alot of what I read in foreign forums and here about the problems in parsun.

by the way, I didnot think tohatsu is much better than parsun. actually we do have a dealer for tohatsu. the prices are higher about 30% more.
When going on the new rib I will try and go for well known firm such as suzuki, honda, mercury etc best thing if provided by the same boat manufacturer where it could be shipped together. the link i have added in the thread about alibaba for the company I was thinking of does provide suzuki with claimed cheap prices.

Re: using longshaft outboard on sib, is it possible?

So you actually own a brand new Parsun 5 HP. You can't compare a PRCH product against a Japanese one. Tohatsu is the oldest outboard firm from Japan, more than 53 years on bussiness. 7 years older than Yamaha. Tohatsu manufacturs engines for Mercury, Mariner, Nissan and Evinrude with their own colors and logos, that's in the portable range, they know their bussiness well.

30% more for same Jap engine is a real bargin, here is around 50% more. If using a Parsun for weekends fishing, as an aux, low hours use it's ok, buy wouldn't rely on them for a constant all year round use. Their metal alloy and electrical systems have failures don't last that long compared to Jap ones. You get what you paid for....

Although buying engines outside could save money, must add shipping costs, insurance, customs and agent fees accordingly, will be buying a engine without a warranty. Usually local engine dealeres don't honor warranties on engines bought/imported from outside. Check.

We have a Nisson (Tohatsu), Mercury (Tohatsu) and a Yamaha. The only reason we considered the Mercury is because it is a re-branded Tohatsu. It is one of the largest makers of smaller engines and has quite a following.

I would say dont waste 700 on a used sib. For not much more you can get a new one.
You will also have less problems. You may also look at a used rib
