Using radio while boat is off

Did some searching on the forums and found some info but wanted more specifics. I have a Seadoo 210 Challenger which came with one battery (I can get the size if needed) and a standard stereo system with two speakers. I'm concerned with using the radio too much while anchored and the boat is not running. Should I be concerned with this? I'm not sure how long it would take the radio to drain the battery or if doing this frequently can hurt the battery over time. Thanks for any advice!

With the engine off is about the only way I run mine. Been doing it for 2 years with no problems, I got the standard system with 4 speakers. I'd say with your system there is no worry, unless you are talking about all day. Guys with 8 speakers, and a mega amp that are trying to entertain the whole lake with their tunes might have a problem.

I'd guess your system is pulling 5-7 amps max. You might be able to find a figure in the manual for your stereo. Then see what the capacity is for your battery. I'd be surprised if you wouldn't be safe for 3-4 hours at least.

If you want an exact figure, put an amp meter in the system, and see how much your stereo is pulling. Then look at your battery cap. and subtract out the amp/hrs for the radio and shoot for a number that leaves at least 80% or so for starting.

Won't hurt the battery, and if you're concerned carry a portable jumpbox.
If you want, add a second battery and an A/B switch.

I have accidentally left my radio on for several days, with the volume all the way down and the boat started right up... I believe it has allot to do with the volume. If you are just sitting there fishing and listening to a ball game or talk radio, you are going to use alot less juice then if your rocking out to music at hi volume, driving the speakers.

I'd like to add a second battery with an A/B switch sometime in the future. Are there kits available to do this? How involved is it to add a second battery?

It is very simple.. When you buy the A/B switch there is a wiring diagram in the package.
