Using trolling motor battery to inflate?

just wondering how many amps a coleman 12v dc charger draws in the event I want to use it to inflate with the same battery powering the motor rather than from my car's cigarette lighter.

(trying to limit my time at the launch ramp with other people waiting).

dumb question I suppose, but I do tend to "over analyze" even the simplest things. In golf this is called "analysis paralysis".

Better inflate sib with car's bat, doing so as wanted, will have less charge (?) from your trolling motor bat specially if it's not a heavy duty marine high amp bat.

Re: Using trolling motor battery to inflate?

yah, that was also a concern and thus wanted to figure out the draw for ten mins or so inflating and more than likely a lot more than trolling at medium to slow speed for a few hours. I estimate that my 40# at medium speed with a 75AH DC batt would last maybe 4-5 hours. I saw a chart once that even said you could get as much as 20 hrs at slowest speed, but that seems a bit optimistic to me. Push comes to shove, I can always just use the foot/hand pump that came with the boat as it takes only about twenty mins anyway and once I got enuf air to get her afloat, I dont think anybody would give me much grief at using a little more time at the end of the dock to top it off.

Thanks for reply.

Not entirely sure what you're trying to accomplish, but it sounds like maybe you'd like to be able to inflate at the ramp without your vehicle impeding others' progress. If so, have you considered getting a portable jump pack with a 12V accessory plug? That would get the job done, and they're handy to have around and are not cost prohibitive.

Well you need to know the amp draw of your pump.
My airpump draws 28 amps per hour (which is actually pretty high)
It take about 7 minutes to inflate my boat
28amps divide by 60 minutes = .4666 amps per minute
7 x .4666 = 3.266 amps used to inflate my boat
I went ahead and bought an 8amp/hour battery(fills my boat twice) it is small and sealed so no worries with it plus was on sale for $14

So not knowing your pump just guessing around 5amps (at the most) that would leave you 70amps to use

Quake n shake, that is brilliant- I bought the same pump and was hemming and hawing about a marine battery but the ones I found are just too heavy- I think I'll follow your lead-
