Ok, so the misses and a few of our close friends are out on the river yesturday enjoying ourselves, there is an area that is called the parking lot, its on the flats and there is usually 100+ boats anchored up and we swim and BBQ and the like. Well it is really calm and we are enjoying ourselves and then here they come PWCs!! the start screaming past and running between boats throwing wakes and tossing our boats like it storming out, there had to be at lease 15 of them, this goes on for about 10 minutes then leave, al calms down and we enjoy the rest of the day..... time to go in now... we start up and head in.... about half way in there they are heading in the direction of the flats so I give way just to not upset anyone, and they head at me, I slow down to a stop and here they come right at us and yep you guessed it tossed us around then leave back toward the flats, so I am &*&^%$ now and called DNR on the radio and tell them whats up , they have already gotten calls and are on their way I tell them where they are and what they did, "ok on the way" so I turn back and try to chase them down, me being a Firefighter and have some authority to stop and hold them but not much " safety violation and all" so we catch them as they are runnin around the flats and DNR pulls up with 3 boats and nab 5 of them and the others take off with DNR right on thier tails, all in all 5 caught and at least 10 on the run as i last saw... from what I gather this happens ALL THE TIME here, just goes to show the new breed of human that are coming to the river... no respect no brains..... some peoples kids yanno??

END RANT

That's a drag. We have quite a few PWC's here too but the owners seem to be pretty good. Our problem is sea-kayaks, most of them are rentals and the people in them don't know the rules of the water. They paddle into the busy marinas right in the middle of the channels. Very dangerous and stupid... it's like riding your tricycle on the highway. There's going to be an accident soon if something isn't done to keep these people out of the traffic.

Don't like them and never will.

I will say that maybe there are a few out there somewhere that are considerate on them, but for the most part, they are idiots

I have never seen one around here that acted like they had any sense to them at all when on them.

Riding circles around you when your trying to fish or just sit and have a cold dring and sandwich.

But like I have said before, 1/2oz. egg sinkers and jerk skis don't mix, and they soon get the picture. :D

Re: UUGHH PWCs -Rant!

Hmmmm.

I have been really annoyed by thoughtless PWC riders. I blame it on the riders, not the PWCs.

I have been very annoyed by thoughtless tournament fishermen bombing through my fishing spot in their mega-hp bassrockets. I blame it on the "fishermen", not on those hideous boats.

I have had my life in jeapordy because of thoughtless, drunk skiers passing their ropes over my head as their boat went on the OTHER SIDE of my boat. I blame it on the boaters, not the skis.

I have nearly been run down by drunken, gold chain jerks speeding about in their cigarettes. etc., etc.

Shall I continue??

There are stupid, dangerous jerks on the water in any kind of craft you want to name, and a lot of them are drunk.

Now, who shall we bash next? Tournament boats, skiers, sport boats? How about sailors or canoeists?

I wont go out on crowded water or water that has ANY skiers, PWCs, tournaments or parties goin on. It's not because they aren't mostly nice, responsible boaters. It's because there is always some jerk out there who may kill me, and there is almost no chance that I will be allowed to fish and enjoy the environment in peace.

If I blamed all boaters for the stupid behavior of a few, I couldn't come on this site.

Let's lay off the PWCs, guys. They are just you in your younger years. :)

Re: UUGHH PWCs -Rant!

I never put anyones life or wellfare in jeapordy (sp?)while riding a jetski while i was young. I was not bashing ALL PWCs just the ones I had to deal with on that day, I myself enjoy riding them but do it responsibly, I dont head right for others underway or sitting still anchored. While anchored that day we had a jetski with us, but recieved no complaints nor bad remarks from anyone. Like I said "some peoples kids" because that is just what it is, mostly kids who get these toys and have no clue of the rules of the water. I am sorry if I offended anyone but my I was simply ranting on my expereince of the day.

Well said JB.

I'm sure we could all come up with experiences with other craft out on the water. The problem as I see it is the nature of the craft. After awhile of running around you tend to get bored so you go looking for some fun not realizing this may be disconcerting to other people on the water.

Personally, I've almost been run over by a cigarette (overpowered and not enough brains)while water skiing. And just a few years ago out on the ocean outside of barneget inlet there was a jerk in a yacht the set the autopilot and went down to his cabin for fun with the ladies and ran over a 23' Grady White killing 2 and injuring another.

The best thing that has happened here in NJ is that they are teaching boat safety in the high schools at the same time they teach driver ed. Maybe it will help but we are talking about teens.

Re: UUGHH PWCs -Rant!

dont forget the rental slugboats with 4 hp motors droning along at a heady two knots an hour IN FRONT OF PARTYBOATS, you know, those multi ton thousand horsepower 80 foot long behemoths loaded down with fishermen and women that have paid 43 dollars a head to go fishing, and the captain has to put the boat on its nose trying to stop it in time to avoid running down one of these Guido's

they should have a big flinger scoop in the front of the boats, like the old cow catcher, some moron is tying up the ceter of the channel when he can safely run his flatbottomed slug over by the side of the channel, scoop em up and fling em off into the mud, lol, guzzle his beer in the safety of the ooze ...

can ya tell I hate those morons?

:p

Ray, why don't you tell us how you really feel. ;)

I know whatyour talking about they used to do the same thing in Barneget inlet when we used to go there. One word describes these people but since this is a family site I'll substitute, MORON'S
