Oldest son says he is going to move there with his job. Kind of worries his Mom and I. Sure would appreciate hearing something positive about the area.

Thanks for any thoughts.

My wife's parents used to travel and camp in that area every winter. Had nothing but good to say about it. No snow sounds pretty attractive about now.

Thanks for the replies. Maybe a winter destination for us then  And yes, he works for a gas/oil outfit. He and his wife will fly into SA and look it over before he commits to the move.

I have never been to Uvalde, but I have grown up and lived in Texas all my life. It is a great State and with it being an hour and a half to San Antonio he should be very satisfied. We used to go to Bandera (about 70 miles from Uvalde) every Summer for vacation which is beautiful hill country, but I think it gets flatter when you get near Uvalde. My Aunt and Uncle had a lake house on Lake Medina which is really nice as well. Lake Medina is within that same distance. If he decides to make the move, you have nothing to worry about.

Main problem will be mastering the language. He and his wife will have to learn to speak Texan.

The easiest way to learn is to start practicing such words and terms as "Y'all come see us. hear", "boy howdy!" and " How 'bout them Cowboys". In no time at all they will be talking like native Texans.

Seriously, the only down side to living in Texas is that there is virtually no public land in Texas and almost no mountains. Being from New Mexico with it's large percentage of public lands for hunting and other recreational activities and the multitude of mountains, the lack of those two things are the only things that I really dislike about Texas. Lots of great places to boat and fish though and the people, for the most part are are outgoing and friendly.

I suspect that after they get adjusted to the change they will love it there.

I am from not too far from there. I have been there many many times. Just north of Uvalde about 20 miles is a VERY beautiful part of texas. The frio river is a wonderful place to hang out. Leaky is a GREAT place to stay during the summer, much cooler nights than most places in texas. As for things to do in Uvalde......... Honestly it leaves alot to be desired. There is a junior college there. There really is no need to brush up on common spanish because that will do them little good there. TexMex is what we call it. Its a mixture of slang that only time will teach to understand and speak. Some spanish, some english, lots of words you wont likely find in a translator. But all in all it is a nice place. Its only an hour from San Antonio. I myself grew up in the oilfields of south texas, no worries. But I do have family from Las Cruces and they didnt believe me that 105 degrees down here is much worse than 120 there. Until one of them moved to San Antonio and called me out of the blue saying What in gods name is wrong with the weather here! lol With all the humidity, the hot is HOT and the COLD is friggen cold. Good luck to him and his family.

BTW No sand storms to worry about down here ;)

Thanks for the positive comments, I'm feeling better about the move if he takes the job. The news makes it sound like the roaring 20's down there ;)

My advice is don't watch the news. He's not moving to a border city.
