Hi and thanks for looking at my post. I have 2 bass boats currently and one of them has to go. both are 1996 both have 1996 Johnsons. One is a 130 V-4 the other 150 fast strike V-6 which ironicly looks much smaller than the 130. both are 17 ft boats and both are fast. The 130 goes an honest 55 the 150 reads 70+ on the boat speedo but I have not checked it via GPS, I think the speedo is off on this boat and at best mid 60's. I have read the 10% per our rule on consumption but I don't believe the 130 uses that much, the 150 I have not run enough check consumption. Are these equally reliable engines generally? I have read though some old posts here and came across one that mentioned that 115 V-4's from this year had some kind of moisture (condensation) in cylinder 4 problem inhereint to the design that lead to early retirement for this engine, does this happen to the 130's as well? Will a V-4 run on 2/3's the gas that a V-6 uses?

A V4 will not be 2/3 less gas, but it will be less.

Both are excellent motors. A very very tough choice.

I might opt to keep the 150 simply if I even thought there was an outside chance I might be looking at a larger boat one day. The 130 will still perform very close to the 60 degree 150 on the same boat. If the 150 was a crossflow there would be no discussion. The 130 would definately be the choice to keep.

Good luck!
