I need a poppet valve kit for my 84 v-6 merc 150 but the parts diagrams on the new parts show two round shapes on one gasket like a figure eight. The housing on my motor is only one round shape. Can I use these parts and just cut off the other section of gasket? - Thanks,D.

Is the figure-8 4-bolt a new design to take place of the two-bolt? I've seen posts before on replacing the poppet valve with the new bigger style. Maybe thats it?

Go to Mercury Parts Express, enter your engine number and it will bring up a choice of engine schematics, I think the one for the engine exhaust manifold and plate will show your poppet and it will give you the part number and the price and you can order it. The only kicker I think is having to pick it up at a Mercury dealer. But you will get the right parts. There is no "KIT" you have to order individual parts, replace them all except the cover and relief plate.

or use the doug russell one, same parts and they will send to you I think??? Might be a couple dollars cheaper.

This will (hopefully) show you the round one at the doug russell site.
