V Belts versus Serpentine Chev 5.7L vortec ?

I am building from the ground up so have a choice between traditional belts or serpentine belt. My thought was that if a component goes bad while on the water, it might be better to be able to isolate it by removing the belt and limp home. However, I would prefer a serpentine belt. Any pro's and con's either way?

In most cases if regular maintenance is kept up there will be no failure. If one did fail it will probably be the one operating the water pump.

I would do Serp and carry an extra belt or old belt
