V-Berth Question

Hello,

New member here. I have a 1969 Whitcraft Coastal Cruiser that I am restoring. The V-Berth has plenty of room for a very nice bed. Th eprevious owner tore out all the frame work and paneling so it left just the fiberglass hull in the V-Berth. I want to frame the area and repanel but have gotten differing opinions on how to secure the framing material (1' X 1" and 2" X 4"s) to the fiberglass.

Anyone have suggestions or know the pros and cons of different methods?

Re: V-Berth Question

I would glue it with PL premium or thickened epoxy and then tab it in with fiberglass.

Re: V-Berth Question

I would frame it with 3/4" ply and skip the 2x4s.

Small line and some tape for the level of your bulks and stringers works well for pre-templating.

Dry fit everything.. then resin coat everything ( remember that you should stick with the same resin for tabbing that you used for your coatings ).

one step at a time.

Get a good fan and a good resporator before you start gluing or tabbing these in.

Re: V-Berth Question

Thanks for all the helpful advice, I will have my brother in law look at your responses, he understands this much better than I can. I will be learning as I go though.

I will post pictures this weekend, now be nice guys and gals, she is cosmetically challenged...lol.

I got her without an engine and dirty as could be, the insides are better than the outsides, the plumbing and electrical all work but she could use some fiberglass patching and some bottom paint.

Not bad for a $1000 though,1969 36' Whitcraft Coastal cruiser.
