I have a 1970 OMC 115HP V4. I have a couple of questions on the water pump. How do I seal the pump housing to the lower unit and that little plate? Can i use RTV silicone? Is there a tattletale on the motors like on the mercurys to tell if it pumping water or not? Are those holes on the back of the engine just below the block the tattletail? If so, How much water should be coming out at an idel?

Re: V4 Water Pump Sealing

first things first, get a manual, they sell here at iboats.com for $26

you do not need to seal the plate to the pump.

you have no tell tale on that motor.

those holes you described below the powerhead are called relief hole, your exhaust should come out of there a little when youre at home , running on the muffs. when you get in the water, and have backpressure on the exhaust, which also comes out the prop, THEN it will copme out those holes in a big force, hence the name"releife holes" they releive the exhaust pressure from the prop

m ikey

Re: V4 Water Pump Sealing

nothing.... as i stated above, you do not need to seal the waterpump...do not use any sealant, it can come off and plug your waterpump, and that is bad, very very bad
