My oldie but goodie keeps flooding out when I try to start. Am I priming too much?. Also put a mix of 50:1 in but now found out it' specs call for 24:1. I thought that I'd add some gas to the tank. I only put 3 gallons in just to see if the thing would start. It started rough but then stopped. It had a broken throttle cable but I actually had a replacement. That's fixed. I want to test the water pump in the lake, but like I said keeps flooding out. Thanks

ok, clipper let's get the rules correct. when posting what kind of motor brand. year, hp, model #. i'm not going to go looking thru references to find it. if you had 50:1 and add gas to it. it's probably 100:1 or worse.

Re: V4SL-13 Flooding Out

V4SL-13 is a 1961 Johnson 75hp. If it truly is flooding, you may have a leaking float valve in the carburetor. Or, maybe no spark, making it appear as if it is flooding when it actually just is not igniting the fuel.

Anyway, 50:1 is 1/2 pint of oil to three gallons of gas. Make it 24:1 by dumping in another 1/2 pint and slosh it up to mix.
