V6 240 impeller issue.

Hi. I changed my impeller. Went from a penta to a Johnson. On start up it started to heat up quickly. There wasn't a lot of water out the exhaust on the leg. I shut it down and took the cover off the water pump. The impeller is fine but the cover has a large circular groove on it that corresponds to the penta splines within the impeller. The splines actually move in and out of the impeller. I take it that it is not normal.
Also the impeller ends are different on both impellers. The Johnson has a groove and the penta doesn't.
It appears that the penta impeller may seal against the cover even with the wear. So which impeller is correct?
You can't buy the cover from volvo.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,....... That cover is junk,....
You either need a new cover, or a new pump, if you can't get a cover,.....

Impeller doesn't look right, the splines sticking out appears to be what wore the deep marks in the cover. Check part numbers carefully. Nothing but rubber should be running against the cover.

Yes the splines have moved within the impeller. It lines up exactly with the mark in the end cover. That is the penta one so I assume it is correct. To me, the impeller is faulty because of the movement.
