My engine is J200TXESM, but I believe this question would apply to almost any V6 or even V4 OMC which has an aftermarket Outboard Jet unit.
I'm looking for possible pitfalls or advice anyone can give me, especially for those of you who have worked on water pumps on aftermarket Outboard Jet units on these engines.
I'm going to replace the water pump due to it setting off an overheat alarm and low RPMs the last time I used it last fall. I immediately shut down and used the kicker when this happened, so I'm pretty sure nothing is damaged (hope). I plan to do the whole kit, not just the impeller, just because until I take it apart I don't know if any of the other parts need replacing.
I've changed water pumps on Mercury and OMC small engines (~10 hp).
I've watched videos on replacing water pumps on regular prop driven V6 OMC engines and am comfortable with that.
I have a factory service manual for my engine
I'm familiar with the installation and removal of the Outboard Jet and have all the manuals for it.
I've contacted Outboard Jet so see if there's any special parts for waterpump service - I don't think there are, but I'll double check.
So, I'm thinking I just follow the instructions for removing the Outboard Jet unit, and then the water pump kit will install just the same as if it was a normal L/U?
Thanks for any advice or cautions.
