98' Merc. 4.3 I have one piece manifolds that are no longer made I'm told... and mine need to be replaced. I'm replacing them due to the fact the starboard side runs much hotter than port, sometimes water dosen't flow through the starboard manifold. I boat in the Hudson River, the lower salty half. I can bolt these on and purchase a converesin kit to connect to my exsisting exhaust. Wondering if my shift linkage and various other items will bolt directly to these. I warmly welcome any advise for this job. I do plan on spraying PB Buster on the bolts before hand and making sure gasket surfaces are clean for the install. Seems to be a simple job. (knock on wood) Is there a break-in practice for the new parts/gaskets?

You could go that way, or you could go to 'dry-joint' system. Exactly the same as far as fit up (quite easy, and yes the shift plate will bolt straight up). The dry-joint system is so much better. Here's a thread where I call out all the part numbers....

No 'break-in' required... Just drive it like you stole it :D :D :D

If you go to the Dry Joint exhaust system, you will still need the 2 intermediate exhaust elbows (14478T01) since the angle of the exhaust Y is different for the one piece manifolds and the 2 piece. Those elbows adjust for the angle change without having to pull the engine and replacing the exhaust Y.
