V6 Tilt and Trim 3 Ram Question

Gday all,looking at a trim system to buy online.Do all merc 3 Ram T&T systems from 80s - 90s handle V6s.This guy has a 3 ram and was told only 60 -90 HP??I thought 60 hp would be single ram only.Picture hard to see as all brackets attached including tilt tube etc.

Anyone??...Will any 3 ram TnT unit hold my V6? or did they make them also for 60 - 90HP only.

I had thought that up to 115HP(in the post two trim ram era), the PTTs were single ram.

I am not sure that all the 3 ram units will fit all V6 motors, however. I though there were differences in fit, by year.

I have a 84 90HP Mariner and it has the 3 ram powertrim. I was under the impression that all of the 3 ram systems were the same.

All 3 ram trims fit 35-250 hp engines . Only differences are: 3 wire and 2 wire pump motors and side and aft filling...

Thanks Faztbullet,looks like i missed a working/very clean unit with brackets for $100.Because thegoose on Ebay told me only up to 90HP.Should of bought it anyway.

most are. however some engines in the 75-90HP were made with either single ram manual assist or three ram power trim.

The odd thing about these engines is that the single ram manual assist can be converted to power trim by replacing the manual pump with an electric one. It doesn't make a lot of sense why Mercury would install the three ram system on these engines when single ram was a cheaper, easier install. Maybe they were trying to force people into buying whole trim systems instead of pump upgrades.

I have been told this before but comparing a manual and power unit side by side the rams and the base is different.... I dont think this is possible in my opinion..

I have been told this before but comparing a manual and power unit side by side the rams and the base is different.... I dont think this is possible in my opinion..

You have to use a spool valve fitting from the Force catalog.

The odd part is that they use the anchor bracket with 9/16" pin. If they had spaced the transom brackets 1/4" wider then they could have used the 5/8" anchor bracket and "universal fit" 60-120HP single ram as a drop in upgrade. The standard setting on a 9/16" spool valve is 60HP max so that if you try buying a used unit to replace manual trim then it probably won't handle the HP. But if you buy the right HP then it probably won't fit your bracket.

The only logical reason I can determine is that Merc. wanted to prevent the easy upgrade and maximize parts profit. Is there some other reason why manual assist engines would have different transom clamp spacing?
