V6 water flow diagram?

Please direct me to a water flow diagram for my 2.0L V6 serial C110740. Hard time finding correct diagram online.

I need a definitive answer to where the thermostat is located in my cooling system. Water telltale isn't running when I start up this new-to-me engine. Does the telltale not see water until the T stat opens?

Umm yeah, but does the stat need to open before water will flow to the telltale?

I think so too, but I'd still like a water flow diagram for current and future reference. I searched on Google for a while and couldn't find anything applicable to my engine series. Would appreciate any link or document posted.

Thanks in advance,

this should be yours..... tha discharge on tha right is gonna be "inside" tha down housing...

wrong one... will try ta find tha right one...

use < on tha left to find tha flow chart... if your motor is not a water cooled regulator type system then it will not have tha hose coming from tha top down to tha poppit..... it actually just like tha first one I posted only with a poppit added...

I also have a 2.0 V6 merc. Engine has a thermostat located at the top of each head. Pee hole flows almost right away. However when running on the muffs only a small dribble comes out the pee hole but in the water I get a stream. I was taken aback at first when I got this engine because my old 90hp inline 6 merc had a strong pee stream on the muffs or water, this one has a bit of a weak stream even when in the water. I watched a few youtube videos and after some searching find this to be normal for this engine. When running on the muffs I have checked and the water coming out the prop does get warm like it should. I haven't installed them yet but I bought a temp gauge and water pressure gauge for some peace of mind.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here but but the poppet valve plays into this as well. When the engine is cold and the thermostats closed the pressure built up by the water pump pushing against a closed thermostat forces the poppet valve to open, dumping the excess water directly into the exhaust cavity, so you immediately get water coming out the pee hole and prop hub. When the thermostat opens, pressure resistance drops, allowing the poppet to close. At higher rpm with a lot more water flow, even with the thermostats open pressure can be high enough to force the poppet open as well to dump excess pressure.

some, but not all, t-stats have a tiny by-pass hole and/or notch (why not all one way or tha other I don't know) to allow a slight dribble by when cold.. poppet only opens under direct pressure created by water pump.. usually 10 lbs+.. does not open jus cause tha t-stats are closed..

muffs don't really tell ya much other than tha pump is are isn't workin'.. motor is are isn't coolin'.....

Duke, sounds like you're right. Did a bit more reading and it appears at idle the pump doesn't put out enough pressure to open the poppet even when it's dead heading against a closed thermostat. It's been years since I have had to dig into mine but I think the tell tale plumbs into the water after the thermostat.

I'm experiencing the same thing as 444. On the muffs there is nothing out of the telltale. I'm used to OMC where the peehole flows as soon as the engine starts, it's second nature to check immediately. My Merc 9.9 pees immediately too. So I was nervous about running the 150 with nothing at the pee hole. I do have an instant read temp gun so I'll let it run and verify that the stats are opening. Sounds like I better get a water pressure gauge. Whereabouts in the system would I install the pickup? In the rubber hose section seems obvious.

does your motor have a hose on top (right behind tha flywheel) of tha block that goes down to tha poppet cover?

shows ta be 135 sea ray?.. shouldn't have that hose..

top of block, behond flywheel you should see a 3/4' pipe plug.. that's where you get "water pump pressure".. remove it and "adapt down" to accept hose to pressure gauge.. ace hardware should have any fittings you need....

Hmmm. No hose to poppet. Just one connecting top of each head and then one heading down into the mid section with a tee off to the telltale. I understand this to be warm water going back to the various discharge outlets.

I'll look into a pressure gauge. Thanks.
