I read a thread recently about using Vacumn Cleaners on a boat and
particularly in the Bilge. After much Hand Ringing and talking to others on this board, I have decided to post here and see what happens. My preface for this is that there are Marine Alternators, Starters and the such that do not blow up the boat, so is there a Marine Vacumn Cleaner that is built to be safe for a boat. Standing by...........

I would think that using a vacuum in your boat would be fine....I use one after every trip. As long as there aren't any gas fumes.

You are talking about just using it to clean your carpet etc. correct?:)

The only time a vacume cleaner would be a danger on a boat is if you were useing it to suck up a fuel spill OR other fumes during repiars

And yes they do make ignition safe vacumes but you really dont want to drop a few grand on one

If there is an fur flying around your boat, let it settle to the floor first and then vacuum it . . . That's what I do.

I bought myself a cordless Black and Decker Dustbuster (with pivoting head) that I will use to clean up sand / dirt on the carpets. As well as some dirt under the bow seats and ski locker.

Vacuuming will cause a static charge, I've had many a jolt using one in my former trade.
