Thanks for taking a look at this. I am trying to determine a rough value of this engine. The serial # is 15028-16488. I have determined the 15028 is the model # and it was manufactured in 1959. The motor is in good shape, clean under the cover, seems to have good compression and appears that it was properly prepared for long storage. It has been inside a building since 1965 hanging, on the rear of a Carolina Boat Co. wood boat. Also would you have any suggestions on the value of the boat? Thanks for your opinion and have a great day.

value it what someone will pay for it. I picked up a 58 18hp Johnson last summer for 50 dollars, but the mice had gotten to it and it needed work. Around here probably 2-300 if it is in good running condition. Depends on the time of year. Right now you wouldn't get that much. In the spring maybe more. Problem is the average Joe is scared of a motor that old even though parts are readily available and reasonable.

I have a 2x'58 18's, a 59 and a 61... maybe a 60 also... and a 66... I hate to say it but the 59 is one of the ugliest years they had! Around here in good running condition with a good LU, maybe $250 or so... I can get em cheap at the Aomci meets though... from $50 - $100 for a good one...

Oh, and no idea about the boat.

I'd have to agree with Sam-Ott on the looks of those '59's.:)
I also agree that 250 to 350 for a good one is about normal. If your's is really nice though, why would you want to sell it? A good running outboard is worth a lot if you compare it to the price of a new one. Your old boat sounds neat, how 'bout a picture so I can determine it's exact value down to the cent---or not. I do like those old wooden boats!

Actually, it's pretty much all the 59's that are ugly! Guess it was a bad year when they switched over to fibreglass! And this is after they had one of the best years in '58. Those engines are a picture of beauty!

I bought one new as a kid back in '59. The second engine I water skied behind......sorta if you know what I mean.

I paid just under $400 for it; worked my buns off to get the money. I was so proud of it I kept it in my room (less fuel tank). Mother was very understanding.
