I have a used 800 series OMC sterndrive that I want to sell. I know from experience that it is difficult to get good used parts for the 800 series sterndrive. Does anyone know what a reasonable price is to sell this type of drive is? I don't want to skin anyone, yet I don't want to be skinned. The upper needs to be rebuilt, but the lower is in good condition. Prop is in very good condition. There is no transom assembly. I was thinking of possibly trading it for a long shaft 9.9hp outboard, to use as a kicker. The drive is just sitting in my garage right now, collecting dust. I'd really rather see someone put it to use. Thanks for any information!

If the lower is only usable part -
trade it or sell it for any offer.
You may not get another chance.
There is no market - they are all gone.

elapso,
Thanks for the reply. Last year when I damaged my drive I would have loved to have been able to access used OMC parts, for precisely the reason you stated, they aren't around anymore.Instead, I had to start at the engine and move back, which ultimately meant I had to change the drive, and modify the transom. There were places with rebuilt OMC 800's and parts, but the prices were way out of my league, and most of those places were in the US. I've had guys offer to trade me kicker motors for the 800, but they were all short shaft, and I need a long shaft. I thought a used 9.9 hp outboard would be a good trade. I do know that the core of the 800 is worth something, cause companies are still rebuilding them, and they only rebuild them cause they make money. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone out there has actually bought 800 drives for parts or what not and what they usually go for.

My brother in-law is picking up a complete '73 model OMC stringer with electric shift still in boat for parts for $500. He is getting the whole shebang Chevy V-8, mid housing, and outdrive. All this for a broken prop shaft. Of course the shaft new lists for $629. I guess it all depends on how long you want to look at it collect dust. It is worth what someone will pay. Trick is finding that someone.

I should have stated that this isn't the "older" electric shift, it's the mechanical one...1985. There are still alot of boats around with them.I guess I'll just shop it around.

You need a website that will host them online for you. My aol account gives me webspace and i use that to host pics and what not. Some websites will give you space for a small fee or if your lucky, you'll find a free one. Then once your pics make their way online, you can use its URL to post on the forums here.
