If you are going to oversize the valves, maybe just look into getting different cylinder heads with the bigger valves. Rebuilt one should not bee toot costly.
When I say oversized valves I am talking about the stems only.
After doing some more research im not totally sure I even need to do anything other than clean them up and reinstall. What I did was to remove the springs / seals etc then lowerd the valve roughly .125-.250 off the seat. I then used an indicator to measure the "wiggle" or play at the tip of the valve stem.
My intakes were getting roughly .0045 and exhaust .0055 play
My first thoughts were that this is out of spec as I think Merc requires no more than .0032 (I think) clearance. After reading on some other sites several people say I need to take my number and divide by 2 as this is what gives me a true number.
Anyone been down this road before? Out of the thousands of dollars of measureing instruments I have the one I do not is a small enough bore gauge to measure the valve guide. If they do indeed need to be reamed and new larger valves installed I have a mill and proper instruments to do the job. Just not sure where to find the reamer and possibly hone
