Valve ticking intermittent on 165 inline 6 cyl

Hello, I have a valve clicking off and on. It's affecting the power and smoothness of the engine. If it was a sticking valve wouldn't it keep sticking and not stop. Could it be a collapsing lifter. It will stop clicking if I stop the engine for a while and restart it and the engine will also run fine. Then 10-15 min later, it starts again and also runs rough. I would like to have someone's thoughts before I put new lifters in it. Thanks

Try a Qt of trans fluid in the oil , run it for a few hours then change the oil and filter

Thanks for the advise. I checked it out further. And decided to adjust the valve lash because it needed the valve cover gasket replaced anyway. So I warmed it up before I pulled the cover then adjusted the valves with it running ,put back it back together. Took it to the lake yesterday and it ran great. Not a bit of valve noise. If it starts again, I'll do the tranny fluid, maybe closer to oil changing time.
