With the sockeye season closing and fall upon us I've started to target the largest of the salmon species on our weekly fishing trips. The Chinook salmon, or king salmon to some, can reach weights up to 100lbs!
I caught this 16.5lb white spring on Thursday off the mouth of the capilano river near vancouver bc. This picture doesn't do the fish justice; it was really thick.
The fight put up by these fish is tremendous! I had only my lighter gear in the boat, suitable for up to about a 10lb fish when I hooked this one. It took me nearly half an hour to get him to the boat. Nearly lost him trying to net as I was by myself but managed to land him.
This is my first white spring and the first steaks bbq'd were delicious!
I'm heading out again tomorrow and hope to see another.
cheers!
