I have highly variable top end rpms with my e-tec 115. This is my second season with the engine.
Last year I was getting close to proper rpms, around 5500 to 5700, depending on the day and the load in the boat. The first trip out this year, I could over-rev the engine to around 6200 rpms and get the corresponding extra speed (never happened before). It was a cool day, so I could see getting a few extra ponies due to high air density. The next trip it was maybe around 5600. The last time I was out, I only got 5400 or so, with a very light load (just me and some fishing gear). The boat is stored in my driveway after each trip, so I don't get any build-up or scum on the hull.
Just wondering if other people get this kind of thing, with e-tecs or any other brand. It seems like a fairly wide range of rpms for something like air density. I fill up with the same fuel from the same station every time.

If it is under warranty take it in to be looked at. If it's not under warranty take it in along with a blank check

Yeah, that's probably the best approach. I have a 5-year warranty so no check needed. I just hate stepping in the doors of stealerships. Feels like money is going to start flying out of my pockets or something...

That is not a motor for a backyard mechanic and as long as you have the warranty use it.

Could be as simple as a slipping prop hub.But I'm with the others take it in its new and under warranty! When I bought my etec I got a 6 year warranty in 2012 and was told if it even so much as looked sideways bring it in.So far its been flawless. If you have any hassles with the dealer go to enation and talk to bluewater bill ,he will be more than helpful.
