Varifying horsepower...

Hello all! New to this forum and possibly boating. Considering buying a 1994 Caravelle, 17ft. bowrider with "low hrs". It has a 3.0 litre 4 cyl. inboard/outboard MerCruiser engine and the owner claims 120 hp. How can I varify this? Since I see many different horsepower ratings for this motor during my research and I cannot find any indetifiable markings on the motor that will tell me one way or the other.

Thank you!

The 4 banger goes up to 135 hp or so. It really does not matter if it is 120 or 135. You will not feel the difference.....................

Re: Varifying horsepower...

Thanks for the reply but it really doesn't answer my question. I realize that I wouldn't really feel the difference between 120 to 135hp. What I'm asking is, what do I look for to know exactly what I may be getting? You can't even buy windshield wipers these days for a car without knowing, make, model, yr, engine size, etc... So if I make a boat purchase i should know what it is for reference, right?

Thank you!

OK, since you really must know.............. do a search on NADA.com. I did and a 17' Caravelle from that year comes with a 130hp engine standard................
