How in the heck do you get a tape out of the VCR if the eject button won't eject it?

Re: VCR help

32 oz ballpeen is my preferred method :D Strike sharply a couple of times. :D Sometimes you have to break out the blue wrench and make an adjustment to the opening. Hope this helps

Re: VCR help

The VCR will have to be removed from the case.Only you can judge whether or not it is worth saving. The most important thing is to try to salvage your tape without breaking it probably.I can't imagine anyone paying to have a VCR repaired these days considering the cost of a replacement.I do fix my own but I don't think I will do so anymore, they are just about a throwaway item it appears.
The heads get dirty and the rubber tires/drive belts are the usual culprits, occasionally you find an led transmitter/receiver that detects the presence of the tape or the beginning/end of tape will fail. You can buy about whatever you need on the net if you are handy but your time is worth something.I certainly wouldn't get too deep in one nowadays, they aren't worth it any more.Ron G

Re: VCR help

Have you tried unplugging it an back in? I have one that keeps the tape in once in awhile. I'll hold the eject buttong while plugging it back in. Other than that it is take the screws out to remove the cover. Then you can use your crowbar or other means :D

Re: VCR help

I have taken tapes out of VCR's that don't work anymore. Just take it apart and tinker with it until you figure out how to get it out. Unplug it first!!

Most common problem back when I worked for RCA was a broken belt. You use to be able to get a belt kit but that was a day or 2 ago.

Re: VCR help

Open the case and have fun playing. Have had VCR's with tapes stuck in them that were thrown out ... opened the case and played with the tape a little and before you know it, the tape is in your hand and the VCR is working perfectly. So, don't get discouraged just yet - open the VCR case and have fun!

Oh no Hoss, it's the wife's and she tapes her soaps on it.
Special time for it to come on and different channels etc.
Now if I could find a way to get a DVD player/recorder and transfer her stuff to it might work.
She has soaps from back in the Arc days.

Re: VCR help

Toshiba makes a DVD-R/VCR combo that lets you record your VHS to DVD. Phillips has a very nice one as well. It's nice that in this day and age we still have companies that understand the quality of the ancient VHS tapes. I've still ogt about 10 Maxell's in the shrinkwrap. I'm not afraid to admit it. I love my VCR. I have 3 of them. And they do get used alot.

They're cheap enough now. Just pull it apart, take out your tape, and go drop $30 on a new one at XSCargo or Walmart.

Re: VCR help

But do they make a stand alone dvd player recorder that I could hook a vcr up to to transfer?

And I like the VHS tapes also.
I have a cabinet full of them along with the wife's soaps.

Well... I'd start by a little research here.

http://hometheater.about.com/od/dvdrecorderfaqs/a/dvdrecfaqintro.htm"
http://www.bestbuy.ca/learnmore/BuyersGuide/en/DVD_Recorder_Buying_Guide.asp?catid=20003&logon=&langid=EN&test%5Fcookie=1"

Read a bit about your needs and expectations. Then hit one of the big stores for electronics like Future Shop, Best Buy, the Source, Etc. They'll have em. I'd still suggest the DVD-R (recorder) /vhs combo. Youu get a nice new VCR for watching your movies ona dn a recorder for DVDs... multipurpose is the way to go.

Another option (albeit a long one) would be an ATI all-in-wonder video card with a video input and some good video software. Record to PC, convert to DVD and burn to DVD-R in PC.

Lengthy. I'd go with the home-theater style DVD-R. If I can make a suggestion I would go with LG or Phillips. LG first though. Most of all when you hit the store don;t buy into all the crap with up-converting players and crap. Just get what you know you need. I doubt your wife's soaps were broadcast for 1080p TVS in HD widescreen. :) And I highly doubt they;d upconvert from a VHS ;)

Good luck.

Re: VCR help

Thought I would add a link to LG's site for their DVD-Rs for home theaters.

LG DVD Recorders: Enjoy your home movies with an LG DVD Recorder and keep your valuable memories forever.

DVD/VHS Combination:One Touch dubbing gives you an easy way to transfer your home movies from VHS to DVD or vice versa with a single touch of a button.

Damn. LG makes nice stuff. Again... good luck.

Re: VCR help

Got the tape out.
The gear that works the eject part was not turning when the tape would come back into the case.
When I pushed the eject button, I had to roll this wheel with my fingers to get it to push it back up and out.
Guess a belt has broke or something.

Re: VCR help

SBN- get your wife a DVR or TIVO to record her programs. Much easier to use, and so nice to skip commercials. I have the DVR from my cable company- only $9.95 a month extra- no purchase fee for the unit. And you can record your program from the DVR to VCR or DVD if you want. We hardly use the VCR anymore, but still have it for backup.
