I am in the process of replacing my steering, i have one of the older morse systems on a 1987 pontoon and i suspect its the original, the cable is stamped ,,,morse 580411-168 in C4290,,, when looking the how to measure it says to measure the plastic sheath then add 18 inches, in my case its 12.6 feet = 150 in + 18 is168 in which is168 or 14 feet, so if i am thinking right i need a 14 foot helm kit

I am replacing all of it it dosnt make sense to replace just parts, its 28 years old i think i have got all of the good out of it, before it got so stiff i needed a pipe wrench to crank it, it did have 2 or 3 inches of play

The cable is stamped 168 inches. So it kind of takes all of the guess work out of it.

If it was doing the job OK and it had no bends with less than an 8in radius, go with the same thing. If the cable had sharper bends in it, you should get a longer cable and reroute it.
