Where does part #54 (o-ring) go?

From the diagram, it appears to go on the impeller housing. Mine did not have one, but there is an o-ring on the driveshaft just under the splines. Is this what the diagram is referring to, or should the wp have an o-ring? thanks.

Re: verify waterpump part

That one I think goes down inside the top of the water pump housing to make a seal round the drive shaft.

Quite difficult to see until you realise there is one in there.

Maybe I'm wrong and it is for the top of the shaft. You should be able to tell from the size.

the O ring at the top of the drive shaft below the splines is intended to seal the spines off so that they dont rust solidly into the crankshaft. be sure to grease those splines before you reassemble

Nope, #54 is the o-ring that goes in the groove below the splines to keep the grease in and water out of the splines. Nothing goes in the pump housing.

Thanks guys.
I'll be sure to lube up the splines before reassembly.
