Vertical or Horizontal bunks for my Starcraft ?

Just sold one my 16' Supersports, but am keeping the trailer it's on(vertical bunks) and am giving the buyer the trailer my boat is on (horizontal bunks).

This is trailer I'm keeping

I have the choice of swapping bunks also, but have to choose by tomorrow.

I know that horiz bunks support the hull better....but I'm guessing that the vertical bunks will make launching easier(less drag on hull).

Will the vertical bunks work well for my boat? Or is it worth all the effort to swap to the horizontal bunk config?

.

IMO, the bunk board position can be changed from its edge or its flat surface on either trailer. Very easy DIY change. When comparing each trailer, do focus on the bigger picture items. For example, tire conditions of each, its leaf spring pack conditions, its steel thickness and overall quality, its ground height and/or its visual stance when connected to your Tow Vehicle. Overall, which one is better for your future needs? Then, decide if the bunk boards should be changed (on the trailer you want to keep).

For light weight boards, bunk board edge is fine. For a heavy weight boat, then flat bunk boards are better. Since loaded trailer appears to be light weight aluminum and trailer has small size tires, I'd assume the bunks boards on their edge are fine (for loaded boat).

Hope this helps

Friction is not intuitive.
Horizontal Bunks support the load with a bigger footprint and lower pressure on the hull.
If you have the room, use them.

Vertical bunks offer no advantage. All the weight is concentrated into a smaller area.
They do NOT have less drag.
They have 1/3 the area but 3 times the pressure.
The friction is proportion to the product. 1/3 * 3 = 1; equals No Change!
