very general prop question

I have a mercury 200 20hp 1971 with a 2 blade prop. on my 15' starcraft aluminum jetstar.
I need some performance enhancements, besides getting a new outboard.

What are the pros and cons of a 2 blade prop verses a 3 blade?
Will it make my boat plane faster, or more top end?
What is the best economic prop for me?

Thanks for the info in advance.

Re: very general prop question

merc had these 2 blade props with the theory of more speed. but realised the vibration and lack of hole shot. go with a 3 blade

Re: very general prop question

Stick with a 3 blade for best overall performance.
If you get a tach ,perhaps a Tinytach, they have a web site.
A gps and tell us your prop size.Do some test runs to establish a base line.prop size, max rpm and speed with a light load. Some details on the boat.
The antivent plate, just above the prop, should be about an inch above the bottom.
The plate should be visable at speed.Be sure the throttle plate opens all the way.
The motor could run over 27 on a light reasonably fast boat.
