I'm mostly done with the rigging on a new-to-me motor 1993 Johnson 175 Oceanrunner. I started it up and it fires quickly, but the tach indicates that it's in the 2000 rpm range as it idles in the driveway with hose attached. I've read about the "faststart" but that seems to be around 1100-1200 RPM, and I'm much higher than that.
The motor is running on premix gas with the VRO still attached. I've seen the "sync and link" procedures but can't do it myself without the special tools that the manual calls for. Is there anything I should look at/do to this engine, or do I just need to get it in the water to check it out before doing anything else?
Thanks
