VERY NEEDED ANSWER

Hello everyone again,

I have posted before about choosing the right boat, as of now it is definitely going to be a crestliner. I am still stuck between a mirage 2000 or a 1950 sportfish with the price difference as the 2000 is much cheaper for the setup i wish to have.

Now for my question. I can't figure out what type of motor to get on my crestliner. I have researched Ultimax's/E-TECS/Yamaha HPDI and need a lot of input on this one. Anyone here know how well these engines run. Anyone have a 2002 or newer motor of either of these engines? Anyone know if i spend 35+ thousand if I'm going to get a solid 20+ years with these engines with NO major problems.

Appreciate any feedback

Hey Jaxin, You won't get many replies in the Crestliner section. If you want advise on a motor you would be better off posting in the Outboard section. Those topics get alot more traffic than this one.

Personally I think either of those motors will last you a long time. You just have to look after it. Make sure you do all the proper maintenance.

You must have a good marina near you...
everywhere around me you do not get a motor choice...you get what the marina sells...and that is it! ( and it is almost exclusively Mercury with the exception of the LOWE dealer who uses Evinrude)
I asked if I could order or exchange the standard motor for an E-Tec when I was shopping ( I got frustrated and have temporarily stopped shopping)...every marina I talked to said no.

I have an 1850 SF w/ a Yammy F150 4 stroke and Love it 8)

The Crestliner now only comes with Merc since they were bought out by Genmar (who also owns Mercury).

I was able to get the dealer to order the boat w/o any motor and then rig and install a Yammy at no extra charge.

Look at the amount of posts on the outboard repair forums and you will see which motor is the most reliable:devil:

Good Luck Crestliner is a great boat!
