Was given a old 1982 Evinrude 35 hp motor, PO said it had not run for a couple years but remembered it ran ruff & had little power . So I went to doing the standard check's Nice strong spark, good comp 125 t&b. So thought I'd have a peak inside the carb, When I pulled the carb there it was "" The intake hole is less than a inch across 7/8 of a inch ? this was not a restrictor plate it is the actual intake, the hole looks the size of a 9.9 but bolts on this E35RCND & looks to be factory to me. The gasket between carb & intake i measured @ 1&3/8" Approx, same as carb body opening. Anyone ever come across this or know why it is done? thanks

Sounds like a 20 HP block was installed.----Is serial # the same on transom bracket and engine block ?----What size is the high speed jet in the carburetor ?

Second on the idea that the block is of a 20 hp. Maybe the entire engine is a 20 hp, with a 35 carb and cowl

Photos of Strange 35 hp Evinrude

E35RCND Block plug numbers are the same as transom tag. Everything looks Factory to me, going by the paint on cowl pan gaskets etc I would say this block has never been replaced, I re posted this as new topic because photos were way down @ the bottom of the page on previous post. kodi

Well, the outboard from below the powerhead is that of a 35, or of a post 1984 20/25/30. Now to determine what the powerhead is. The bolts/nuts that hold the powerhead on, do they look like they have been loosened/tightened, though a bit of Rattle Can action could hide the evidence.

Kodi - Starting a second picture thread because pictures in the original thread are in the 5th post is saying our members can't or don't read.

Where are the requested lower unit pics?

Post #5 sure looks like a restrictor plate from here. You sure it isn't?

There wasn't a clear photo from the side showing if it was restrictor plate, or the actual intake manifold. A restrictor plate added on would certainly throw a monkey wrench into the link&sync adjustment. It would also create problems for the carb to provide proper air and fuel mixtures at throttle openings greater than what the restrictor can flow.

It is not a restrictor plate it is the intake see photos look at the scribes I made in the aluminum, Also the dang hole is not even centered to the middle this in and of itself I think would cause problems Still don't know what to make of this, Again I looked the bolts , gaskets, Matching sn numbers on block plug & transom mount, Whatever this is supposed to be Imho came from OMC.

I know our 1980 35 hp had a much bigger hole on the intake. Is there a part # visible on the intake?

I suspect someone stuck a 20 hp powerhead on it, taking care to move the welsh plug with the serial # over to the replacement, or moved both the transom model/serial plate, welsh plug and cowl, over to a post 84 20 hp

I do not believe the factory installs the block model and serial # the same way as it has been on this motor.-----I do not recall the punch marking used to make that stay in position.

Clean the carb and put it back on with the gasket matching the carb. See if she runs for you.
