So i have a '88 Bayliner Capri 1950 with the 3.0 omc and Cobra outdrive.

Outdrive was shot, so we let it rebuild voor ? 1750,00

New electronic ignition, new spark cables, new spark plugs, filters and many more.
Motor is ready to run, im just waiting for a new starter.
After this motor and drive are tip top.

In 2010 we noticed a small water leak in the bilge.
Bilge pump could easy handled it, no big deal.
Transom seal is leaking :(

Also soft spots in the floor.
We take out the floor and the stingers are in good condition.
Bad news is the transom, we drilled some holes in it and the 1/3 is rot.
2/3 is only wet, 3/3 is dry and good.

Is het very unsafe to go boating this way for just 1 season ?
Were thinking about putting 4200 around the transom, an lay a new simple floor.
Nex fall we will take everyting out and rebuild the transom.

Ideas ?

IMO, unsafe. Some water event will torque the transom, it cracks, and you'll be in a serious water entry situation with your friends and family onboard. Not worth it IMO. Fix it or ditch it.

Good luck, be safe.

The short answer is yes it is unsafe. Take a look at my two threads and you will understand why it needs to be done.

It's bad enough to have an accident because of a problem you did not know about, but having one with a known problem is just putting you and your guest at risk for no reason. The transom may hold up fine but no one here will tell you to take that chance....fix it or park it.

Ok, Its clear to dont do that.
Is it a option to do just the transom, and keep the rest for the fall.

I have a 3 section transom, the middle part is rot, the 2 other sections are great :

Ayuh,.. Sure,.. Your's looks pretty Easy....

Yank the drive, then the motor, then the transom assembley....
Install in the reverse order...

I THINK, but may be wrong, That when the motor is out and you start diggin around below the deck you're gunna find more rot issues to deal with. i.e. motor mounts, and stringers that WILL have to be dealt with. If the transom is that bad there HAS to be more decay on other wood structue below. BUT like I said I MIGHT be wrong, and for your sake I HOPE I AM!!!!!
