How long can a VHF cable be before you will need to run a signal repeater? It will be either RG-8x or rg59?

THanks

Re: VHF cable length?

It will be RG-8X or RG-58 or any other 50 ohm Coax.
RG-59 is 75 ohm and should not be used.
If your running long runs then use RG-8U.

If your running over 100 feet then I would move the transmiter closer to the
antenna and get a radio with a remote mike.

In general poor antennas come with RG-58 Better antennas come with RG-8X.
Unless your running over 30 feet and I would stay with RG-8X.

Sailboats run the VHF antenna from the mast to the nav center most of the time. Many of these runs are 75' or better from end to end. Don't know what you're planning on but with high quality cable and good end connectors you should be able to go 100' or so without a repeater.
