VHF, GPS Installation

I have a Trophy 19ft center console. I know nothing about installing electronics. I managed, however, to install my vhf by following the hot & ground wires of the depth finder and connecting the vhf to the same place (an accessory switch on the console). Is this ok that they're on the same one? Can I connect my gps to another accessory switch? (which currently has nothing on it). Also, the vhf and depthfinder will turn on when the key is on, without having to actually flip the accessory switch. How do I fix the other switch so the gps will also do this?

I always prefer to hook up a GPS straight back to the battery with a fuse at that point. You will have way less electical interference that way.

Take two wires that you will use for power/ground and attatch them into a drill chuck. Have a friend hold the other end and operate the drill until you have a nice tight twisted power/ground pair.
