I was out on the river last week. I've run this river alot. I was cutting through this pass that I've been through a couple of hundred times over the years. For some reason it seems somebody decided to stick a stump in the way. Must have been a floater that got hung up. Now I got a pretty wicked vibration in the motor, but only when it's in gear. I cannot duplicate the vibration on shore, only in the water. If I take the prop off and rotate the prop shaft it looks straight, I'm hoping I bent the prop a little. Visually, I can't see anything seriously bent on the prop, but who knows with these 50yo eyes. I'm hoping aluminum prop vs steel shaft means I bent a prop blade a little causing the vibes. Is there any way to check the prop, or just buy another and give it a try??? I don't have a spare, and don't know anyone willing to lend me a known good prop to try.
BTW its a redone 71 Starcraft SS with a 1995 Evinrude 90hp.

Re: Vibration after impact.

If you have access to a dial indicator you could find out real quick if there's any damage to the shaft.

You might ask your local marine dealer who works on props in your area, they should be able to look at it and tell you if the prop is bent. They could probably even fix it for a lot less than the cost of a new one.
