I have a 99 crownline with a volvo 4.3 and volvo outdrive. The ehaust bellows is in half and I was wondering if the exhaust dumping in front of the prop could be causing a vibration at certain rpm's since I am probably churning a mixture of air and water?

No, your vibration is from a bent prop shaft. If your vibration is worse when you turn left or right at moderate speed you have a bad gimble bearing.

I will have to check that and see if it's worse when turning. If it does turn out to be the gimble bearing what kind of cost are we looking at and how long can it wait??

A ginble bearing is around $75 but a technician will have to install it because it would have to be aligned. It is not good on the outdrive if you do not repair it.

I have this at the shop right now. I called them and they said that the spindle is dead on and that a small vibration is ok. Is he giving me the run around? It's under warrenty for a month. He also said that it's not uncommon for a prop to be a bit out of round but that won't hurt nothing.

If you have a boat still under warrenty I would not buy that the spindle is dead on. The outdrive should be checked for alignment. This requires the outdrive to be removed. It only takes twenty minutes to remove it. After it is removed you can reach in through the u-joint bellow as it is large enough to put your hand into the gimble bearing area. Put two finders into the center of the bearing. Move it back and forth. It should feel smooth. If rough it is bad. Also, have the shop put an alignment tool in and check the alignment. It sounds like you need to see this done. As far as a bent prop, if it is bent it will damage your lower prop seals. If this happens you could get water in the outdrive. Hope this helps.

Better yet.... take it to another shop for a second opinion. Don't accept that any vibration is OK. But keep in mind that the V6 didnt run as smooth as the V8. good luck
