Vibration when turning - engine alignment?

I have recently installed my new 5.7 vortec coupled to Penta sx-m 1.79 outdrive... Whilst the outdrive was off I replaced all bellows, ujoints, changed gear oil... when engine was installed the alignement bar would slide in to bottom out effortlessly and there were equal marks on the splines however, when it came to installing the outdrive, this is not slide on so easily, I had to tighten the nuts to pull it on.

I assumed that all was well but i can still feel a slight vibration when steering(the reason I did the ujoints in the first place)

Could my engine alignment still be out?

Advice really appreciated.

Best wishes,

Stan

At what poiint of the steering is this happening? All through the turn, hard over?
What rpm does this happen? All rpm, only at high rpm, only at idele?

It seems very slight at idle rpm if I bank hard right or left. The vibration though bearable is more obvious when banking at speed and seems to get progressively worse with more lock. It is there all the time forby when the boat is running straight.

I am not feeling confident in corners as it definately feels
like something is slightly amiss.

Maybe unlikely based on how you describe it, but have you tried with a different (known good) propeller? Easy to test and eliminate.

The prop is a new quicksilver high 5, I am confident it is not to blame :)

Any vibrations if running the engine at higher rpm, turning the drive side to side with gear in neutral?

My take, although a layman compared to many of the experts on the forum, is that your driveline (unloaded) then seems to be fine. If you had issues with alignment, the u-joints, etc, it at least should show some signs while running "only" the engine.

To me, this would point so something in the outdrive, or propeller (I know you have a known good one). A bit scary, but if you have the boat on land, and do the same tests (turning drive side-to-side) with gear engaged and propeller turning. Can do it if you keep your fingers out of the way, and ensure the muffs are properly secured so they don't slip/fall off when turning the drive.

There is no play in the propeller axle? The drive is properly "secured" (tight) to the boat and the transom shield?

Now sort of just chasing "eliminations", and for that, I would try with a different propeller. Easy test - maybe the easiest and if your vibrations are gone, you have the answer.
