I have a 23" Crown Line with a Merc 5.7 pushing on an Alpha 1 sterndrive. I notice somtimes at lower RPMs that there is a solid vibration from the stern. Doesnt make any noises but you can definately feel some shaking in the hull. Once on plane the engine runs and sounds smooth and quiet. It this normal because of the load on the prop or should I be looking into it more.

Re: Vibration?

Well the prop is a little bangged up some dents and a minor curl to the blade(found a rock the hard way). Wouldnt that also be noticeable at high speed though also? I had the drive off in the spring and lubbed up the U-joints but I can hear a growl at sharp port/starboard turns. Seems to go away if I trim it just right. Might be the U-joints causing all of this huh? How seirous is it? Can I run out the season on them? Thanks - Logan

Re: Vibration?

Well,..........

It sounds like you need a New Prop,........
And,.....
Possibly a New Gimbel Bearing,+ U-joints.........

You can Run it as it is, til 'ell Freezes over.......
But,......
It Won't get Better by itself,+ Most Definitely Will get Worse........

I'd Atleast change out the Prop..................
