Hello,

I was wondering what some of you all are using for a video camera on the boat. I want to capture most action scenes such as skiing and tubing. I would also like to have a mount facing the rear of the boat.

Any suggestions

Also, i have some handles above the swim platform, I was thinking of mounting the camera on one of those with this,

Go pro makes small waterproof video cameras with all kinds of mounting options. They are the cameras that snowboarders dirt bikers etc use to film themselves doing action stuff and should work great for boating as they are designed for action sports so they should take the abuse. Look them up online or at best buy.

Mount it on top of the windshield ...... it will suffer less water damage and interference there

gopro.com

You can get it wet, it will take a beating, and has many mounting options. Nuff said.

GOPRO HD HERO2 I personally use them for Scuba, Skydiving, ATV's and Boating use their mounts waterproof housing to 200Ft and great High Def Video with almost no vibration issues. You can even do 3-D set up with two.

absolutely! Go pro's are used in MANY big budget movies, their quality is that good... They are extremely durable, and there are countless mounting options.

Personally, i've had my go pro mounted UNDER the swim platform, just for an interesting view of whats going on down there. I've also flown my go pro on various rc helicopters and planes, as well as went bombing down ski hills on my mountain bike. I've used other ones, and the cheap ones are toys. They don't stand up, and the quality is horrible.

Go browse http://gopro.com/videos/ if you need any more convincing!

I have never used them myself but heard nothing but good things about them. If I were to buy one that's what I'd get. I tend to go for quality once verses buying cheap multiple times.

If you want it for skiing, you should look into pylon mounts. They can be hooked up to follow the line automatically, sweeping back and forth, focusing on the skier as they cut across the wake. I'll try to find a link.

Edit: here is one, not cheap though

The Go pro is not expensive when you consider what it does. Compare it to other Hd cameras, and you will find it is a bargain. The only drawback is audio. it just plain sucks.

I am not too concerned with audio, I will usually have a music cover playing during my videos.

Reading this I was concerned about vibration from mounting on the boat, but after looking at the video on the GoPro website of the race car, not so much. Quality looks pretty impressive.

The go pros have a fairly wide angle lense, that by itself takes care of most of the vibration. There are also software products that you can run your videos through on a computer that do a very good job of removing vibration.

(I use deshaker http://www.guthspot.se/video/deshaker.htm )

Personally i like my cam from Drift Innivation. Smaller more comfy to mount or wear compared to a go pro, plus has a buikt in screen so you can line up your shots. Also doesnt have as much of a fish eye lense.
