I'm new to a digital camcorder. Is there an EASY to use program that allows video editing?
Also, what is the most popular format to capture in?
I have two main needs:
1) capture small video segments and edit them. Than save to file for e-mail etc.

2) capture entire video to cd.

This avi, mpeg, wmv, etc is a bunh of BS!?

Re: video editing, file format

Digital cameras output data in DV format. No capturing required, just a file transfer.

Simple editing software includes Ulead VideoStudio or Virtualdub (free)

Don't bother trying to put video on cd. DvD format allows much better quality and much more space. DvD burners are cheap. Price out an "LG"

.AVI .MPG .WMV are simply different formats used for different applications. Once you get it on DvD, it'll be .VOB

;)

WTF?
Thanks, Schematic! I have the Ulead software just need to play with it more I guess.

I think Ulead saves as ....well I can't recall.

So I guess when you want to e-mail a file you send the attachment with the Ulead extension, and the recipients computer decides what to open it with?

Video files are fat. You will need to use a file format that utilizes high compression if you want to email it. Ulead does not have its "own" file type. It will allow what you select as an extention.
You will always be tormented between size versus quality. The DV format from your camcorder uses video that is 720X480 This size is large for email (pending on video length) You may need to resize it to 360X240

Search DIVX on the internet. This program's format allows good quality and small size. The only draw back is that the receiving party must have a capable player.

The best solution is to burn a DVD and mail it... :)

Can video files be compressed in a zip file and then e-mailed? Can this be done with win zip?
How much compression can I expect, the current file size is 1.93 GB?
Thanks,

You can .zip any file. Dunno on how much compression you can expect.
If your running Win-XP, try the movie maker that comes with it. It is a easy to use video editing program. Very basic but may fit your needs.
start/programs/accessories/entertainment/
