While recovering from a broken ankle, I took the family down to the boat ramp today to watch the fun. This is a very busy ramp with five lanes. I was amazed (and Horrified) at some of the things I saw today.
1. We watched a guy yell at his wife as she slid his Jeep CJ5 into the water almost to the front wheels. Things like that happen when someone doesn't know how to back a trailer and a +/- 20ft Rinker is attached to a CJ Jeep.
2. A guy backs down to unload his small bayliner CC. When the boat won't back off the trailer because most of the boat is high and dry, he puts the motor in reverse and then gives it full throttle. He dang near killed himself when while standing on his trailer and pushing, the boat took off and he was drug through the water while trying to climb back on.
3. A guy backs down w/ two jet skis one of which will not run. After trying to jump start the ski with the other jet ski, guy with truck pulls up, turns around, and drives down the boat ramp to jump start the ski. Ski starts but w/ slick ramp, truck will not back up. +/- 15 minutes later, group of guys unhook trailer to drag it up the ramp by hand. Takes log chain, duelly pickup, and cooler heads to pull truck up ramp and trailer out of water.
4. Couple show up with BIG cigarette boat and are apparently still drunk from night before. At top of ramp, they unhook ALL straps and safety chains, back duelly down the ramp very quickly. About 1/2 a boat length from the water, man hits brakes and boat begins to slide off trailer. As the the truck stopped just at the waters edge, he jumps out of the truck, struggles to pull himself up on boat spilling his beer and cursing his wife/girlfriend. I guess he forgot the boat plug because he fired up the boat, powerloaded it on the trailer and without hooking up anything, pulls the boat up to the staging lane and drains the boat for a while.
All in all, great day out considering I cant go out myself yet.

jonnybigrigger, that is where My family and I was watching from. It was a "hoot". I forgot to add that the whole time, a young lady kept throwing sticks into the river so that her black lab could swim out and fetch. I can't tell you the number of times I thought it was going to get run over. She would walk in between the boats and let her rip.

Tlands, Welcome to Iboats. At boatlandings, brains need not apply, only money and lack of common sense. Boat landings are always a great way to amuse ourselves, but please help them out, only if they accept our help.(most don't) PDS.

If you get bored at Cox's Park, try going to Taylorsville Lake. The big boat ramp there, not the State ramp, but the Large Marina ramp, I forget the name, can be a zoo as well. Many stupid human tricks there as well! DG in Louisville

JohnnyB, I know wht you mean been there- done that, I now go to a small ramp about 15 minutes past the State Ramp, called Van Buren Ramp, off Van Burn Rd. (go figure) It is located at the far end of the lake, but its a "Ramp less Traveled."
