By luck I found this searching google:

It is quite a big file so takes a minute or so to download - it is titled chrysler handbook for 3.5 3.6 outboards but the first section has an engine remarkably close to the viking I have.

http://www.chrysler-marine.com/outboard/ob976.pdf

Anyway, the method to remove the flywheel is to insert a good sized screwdriver between the bottom of the flywheel and the body of the motor and, after removing the flywheel bolt and cup put in a knock out bolt and give that a couple of moderate raps with a hammer whilst levering up with the screwdriver - tried it on mine and two taps later off came the flywheel!!!

The coil does not seem damaged or cracked so cleaned and checked points - going to replace spark plug wire and put it back together and give it another try.
